The Fine Print

Please note that all weddings and special events require prior approval from the owners and managers of the property. Events are subject to strict guest capacity limits, seasonal minimum-stay requirements, and additional fees for the use of the property for weddings, receptions, or other gatherings. Hosting an event without prior approval and payment of the applicable fees is a violation of the rental terms and will result in immediate termination of your stay.

Common Questions

Everything You Need to Know About Weddings at Sky Valley Chateau

Sky Valley Chateau is open year-round for lodging and special events hosted by those staying on our property. Please note that our venue is only available to those staying in the lodging accommodations and is not available as a venue-only option. We do have seasonal capacity limits detailed below.

At Sky Valley Chateau we specialize in micro wedding celebrations and elopements. Our seasonal overnight accommodations and event capacity limits are as follows:

  • Overnight occupancy on the property is 32; limited additional guests can only be on the property during approved special events with prior approval from the owner – Approved additional guest count is dependent on the season. Additional guests (not staying overnight on the property) must exit the property no later than 10:00 PM.
  • Winter (mid- October to mid- May) guest allowances are limited to 35 total guests including the couple, those staying on property and those attending the event.
  • Summer/Fall (late May to mid-October) guest allowances are limited to 50 total guests including the couple, those staying on the property and those attending the event.
  • The allowed total headcount includes every person (adult or child) staying on or off the property, excluding vendors. Please note that for Summer/Fall events, the inside of the house will not comfortably fit 50 individuals, thus an outdoor dinner event is required to ensure the best experience.
Your first deposit payment (50% deposit) and a signed Special Event Agreement and Rental Agreement are needed to reserve your date and make your reservation official! The final payment (Remaining 50% balance) is due 90 days before your arrival date.
We require all couples to meet with our Event Specialist for a vendor coordination conversation at a minimum, and this service is included in the wedding venue fee. Our Sky Valley Chateau team is also available for partial and full service planning and day of facilitation for additional fees — at rates well below the current, standard market prices. We also work with other 3rd party planners as well.
Sky Valley Chateau is unique because you have the full lodging property rented for your group’s use. Since we do not charge per person, but for the property at large, the price remains the same regardless of the guest count dictated by the seasonal limits. Our team gives every wedding, big or small, the attention it deserves.
We’re very familiar with this style of wedding & frequently host couples who opt for a church or mountaintop ceremony. Our pricing remains the same for those not hosting their ceremony at the venue, as you have the property rented for multiple days.

To keep our space beautiful, we DO NOT allow:

  • Nails, glue, or sticky items on our walls or aspen wedding arch
  • Confetti, glitter, fake flower petals, or loose decorative items
  • Real candles (real candles are not allowed due to extreme fire danger of our entirely timber-built structure and our immediate proximity to the National Forest.
  • We ask that no nails, tacks, or tape be used on the aspen wedding arch. We require that only zip ties be used to affix items to the aspen arch on the wedding lawn – this preserves the bark and appearance of the wood.
Yes, for all outdoor events we require the rental of tables, chairs, dishware and drinkware. While the home is stocked with dishes and drinkware inside the home, we do not allow those items to be used outdoors for special events. However, you can go with the upgraded disposable route if that’s more in line with your budget! In fairness to future guests, we ask that our kitchen items in the home not be intermingled with rental items as our items inevitably disappear this way.
As the rental property, we are not involved in the hosting of your event or in any way contracted with your vendors. You assume risk and liability in the service and use of alcohol on the property. We do require that you have our outlined special event insurance policy for the duration of your stay that includes liquor liability insurance. This allows you to provide and serve alcohol at your own risk and discretion, as the host/hostess/ renter being the sole responsible and liable party under the State of Colorado alcohol laws.
Absolutely! We love creative send-offs. Just keep our decor guidelines in mind—NO fireworks, sparklers, floating lanterns, faux flower petals, confetti or balloon releases. Our event specialists can recommend photo-worthy alternatives.
Yes, and as noted above, the venue space is only available with the lodging component.
All vendors must be professional wedding/event vendors with appropriate liability insurance. All vendors must provide certificates of insurance to the venue, and also name the venue as a secondary insured on their liability policy. You can select vendors we recommend or hire your own vendors with venue approval prior to hiring. Please note your vendors are responsible for the setup/breakdown of the service you hire them to provide. However, please note that the use of vendors is not required; as some couples opt for a more DIY event.
A refundable $3,000 damage deposit is due 30 days prior to your arrival date (cashiers check). As long as there’s no damage (which we never anticipate!), you will receive the uncashed check via the mail within 10 days after your departure date.
Yes, this provides extra peace of mind for the host and/or hostess of such an important celebration. The cost varies based on any additional coverages you deem are appropriate for your event, however you can anticipate spending between $250 – $275 for the levels of insurance and liquor liability coverage we require for all events that occur at Sky Valley Chateau. We give exact instructions on the policy and coverage limits we require – you will be sent a link and detailed instructions. Please DO NOT purchase coverages on your own before receiving these instructions. Special Event Insurance is required for all events; without exception.
